The Langtang-Gosainkunda combined trek is a beautiful and varied journey within a hidden mountain valley and climbing up to a high alpine pass. Home to the shy red panda, the Langtang area is best known for its pristine forests of mixed conifer and rhododendron and high-elevation meadows of wild sheep, Tibetan-like culture and lovely mountain views.
The name "Langtang" comes from the story of the ancient Buddhist lama who followed his lost yak into the valley - "Lang" means "yak" and "Tang" means, "follow". The region mirrors the diverse culture of Nepal itself. Rising from the Langtang, the Gosainkund trek (also spelled as Gosainkunda and Gosain Kunda, is also the name for an alpine lake of spiritual significance to the local people. At a height of 4380m, the lake is one of 108 in this area of the Langtang National Park, with the trek over Laurebina Pass (4,610m), skirting its shoreline. This is a pristine and very scenic region of Nepal to visit.
Gosaikunda is an alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake in Nepal's Langtang National Park, at the elevation of 4,380 m (14,370 ft) with a surface of 13.8 ha (34 acres). Together with at least 15 lakes, the Gosaikunda Lake complex is 1,030 ha (4.0 sq mi) in size. The lake remains frozen for six months in winter October to June and melts and sips down to form the Trishuli River. This area encompasses 108 lakes from small to medium size.
DETAILS ITINERARY
Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel& trek briefing
After you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will have to go through custom formalities. You will be greeted by our representative who will be anxiously waiting for you with a placard displaying your name in his hand. You will be transferred to the 3-Star category hotel in a private vehicle. Once you get refreshed, you will get briefing regarding the itinerary and you will also be introduced with your crewmembers and other trekkers who are going to join you on the trip. Enjoy welcome dinner in the evening where you can taste authentic Nepali dinner. Stay overnight in a hotel.
Day 2
Kathmandu sightseeing tours, packing and preparations
In the morning after breakfast, we will organize half day sightseeing tour during which you will be taken on memorable UNESCO Heritage Tour. Tour begins with visit to Nepal’s holiest Pashupatinath Temple Complex and takes us through Nepal’s largest Bouddhanath Stupa and 2500 years old Swoyambhunath Stupa. We will return to hotel in the afternoon and time for shopping of any missing items, packing and getting ready for the trip.
Day 3
Drive to Syabru Besi (1,503m) - 7 hours
After breakfast, you will drive few minutes to arrive at the meeting point from where we will start our trip. We will meet with trekking guide and porters and then drive northwest from Kathmandu. Follow the scenic swirling road through villages, river and mountains at the backdrop. The bus will stop at a hotel nearby highway for lunch. Drive through Trishuli Valley to Syabrubesi. The path beyond Dhunche is bumpy as it is graveled. Enjoy the views of Ganesh Mountain. Stay overnight in Syabrubesi.
Day 4
Trek to Lama Hotel (2,410m) - 5 hours
Langtang Helambu Trek begins from this day. We will reach to Bhotekoshi River and then continue to follow the path towards Langtang River. The trail escalates uphill from Langtang River to Bamboo (1,960m) passing through rugged terrain. Moving uphill from Bamboo, we will reach Rimche (2,400m) that is located at the edge of calm Langtang River. After taking lunch at Rimche, we will move further to Lama Hotel through forest area where we can enjoy wildlife views like red pandas and monkeys. Overnight at a guesthouse.
Day 5
Trek to Langtang Village (3,430m) - 5 hours
Leaving Lama Hotel early in the morning, we will follow the picturesque path towards Gumanechok which will provide us with an access to the pretty village of Ghoda Tabela. We will choose the gradually ascending trail to the lush green alpine valley where we can see Yaks grazing lazily. Continuing our journey through the valley, we will reach pretty Langtang village. This is one of the oldest villages in Langtang region. Enjoy the close-up views of mountains. Stay overnight at guesthouse.
Day 6
Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,830m) - 4 hours
After early morning breakfast, we will leave Langtang Village and take short trek to Kyanjing Gompa. Enjoy the panoramic views of Mount Ganchempo and Langtang Lirung Mountain from Kyagjin Gompa. We will visit Yak cheese Factory where we can buy local made fresh cheese. Located below Langtang Lirung, the area is surrounded with several peaks. Enjoy the close-up views of surrounding peaks and mountains. Stay overnight at Kyanjin ompa.
Day 7
Hiking day to view point Kyanjin Ri (4,350m) and exploration day
Kyangjin Ri is the highest point of Langtang Trek. Located right behind the village, Kyangjin Ri offers spectacular panorama of Langtang peaks.We can follow the trail upward through moraine to reach Kyanjin Ri for superb Himalayan scenery of Langtang Lirung(7,245m), Ganesh Himal(7,406m), Naya kanga (5,846m), Dorje Lakpa(6,988m), Gauri Shanker(7,145m), Gangchenpo (6,387m) andYala peak (5500m). Alternatively, we may also hike to Tsergo ri (4,985m). Stay overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 8
Trek to Lama Hotel (2,480m) - 6 hours
We will return from Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel on this day. The trail lowers gradually down from Kyangjin Gompa and passes through forest and river. The path is scenic with spectacular mountain views at the backdrop. We will pass through Sindum, Mumdu, Langtang Village, GhodaTabela and Gumanchok villages to reach Lama Hotel. Stay overnight at Lama Hotel.
Day 9
Trek to Thulo Syabru Village (2,200m) - 5 hours
After an early morning tea, we will follow the raising path to Rimche. From Rimche, the trail lowers down to Langtang River. Crossing River over suspension bridge, we will walk through Bamboo forest. Lowering down through the landslide area, we will climb to Thulo Syabru. The trail branches off after brief period. One of the trail leads us to Syabru Besi while the other one takes us toThulo Syabru Village. Passing through Kyang (2040m), we will ascend uphill to Thulo Syabru Village. Overnight at teahouse
Day 10
Trek to Cholangpati (3,584m) - 4 hours
Leaving Thulo Syabru, we will take brief walk to Foprang Danda (3200m). Lowering down from the hill, we will reach Dursagang (2660m). Enjoy the scenic views of Langtang Mountain, Ganesh Mountain and Sisapangma and other Mountains in Tibet side. Traversing the dense forest of Oak, Hemlock and Fir, we will arrive at Cholangpati. We will visit local cheese factory at Cholangpati. Overnight at local teahosue at Cholangpati.
Day 11
Trek to Gosaikunda Lake (4,381m) - 4 hours
Crossing the mountain pass of Lauri Binayak La (3,920m.), we will reach to Gosaikunda Lake on this day. Walk through the jagged terrain that offers picturesue views of Himal Chuli Mountain (7893m), Manaslu Mountain (8156m) and Ganesh Mountain (7406m). Langtang Lirung Mountain can be seen towards the north. Gosainkunda area is crowded with more than dozen lakes. Saraswatikunda, Bhairab Kunda and Gosainkunda are three major lakes. Afternoon will be free to explore around the lakeside area and Gosaikund temple and get blessed by the god Gosaikund. Stay overnight at a Lodge in Gosainkunda.
Day 12
Trek to Ghopte (3,440m) - 6 hours via Gosainkunda pass 4,610m
If you like, you can take dip in Gosaikunda Lake. But remember that the water is chilling. We will leave Gosaikunda Lake and reach Gosaikunda Pass. Climbing to the top of Pass, we will follow the lowering path along river to Langtang National Park post at Bhera Goth. The trail continues further along the valley to Phedi (3740m). We will lower down from Phedi to river and pass bamboo forest to reachDupiChaur (3630m). Walking along moraines, we will climb to Kasturee Danda. The path then takes us through forest and valley to Ghopte (3440m). Stay overnight at teahouse.
Day 13
Trek to Kutumsang (2470m) - 5 hours
On this day, we will lower down from the ridge at Ghopte and pass through series of ups and downs, crossing small river and boulders. We will make final climb to Tharepati (3640m) where we will arrive at the branched path. One path leads us to Melamchi Gaon (2530m) while the other pass through Kutumsang to Sundarijal. We will walk to Kutumsang. Stay overnight in Kutumsang in the teahouse.
Day 14
Short trek to Golphu Bhangyang - 2 hours and Drive to KTM - 4hours
From Kutumsang, we will do short day walk early in the morning and catch the transport to Kathmanud the same day, check in the hotel and get ready for trip celebration dinner host by Dream Himalaya Adventures.
Day 15
Free day in KTM, celebration dinner and last minute shopping in KTM
This is Free Day. You can visit the freak street of Thamelfor the last minute shopping from where you can buy different souvenir items like Nepali handicrafts, Khukuri, pashmina and more. Chill out your own time in town.
Day 16
Drop at Kathmandu international airport for onward destination.
