Revised Tourist Entry Visa Fee and Arrival Process in Kathmandu Airport:
When you arrive at Kathmandu Tribhuvan Airport, there are two separate visa counters, one for visitors with a visa, and another for those without. If you don’t have a visa already, you can get one on entry into Kathmandu airport. You need USD, Euro or AUD cash (preferably the right money) and a passport photo, a completed application form (available in the arrivals hall) and need to go to the counter labeled for visitors without a visa. An entry visa costs (currently) USD $125, which is valid for 90 days. For shorter trips, a 30-day visa currently costs $50 USD and 15 days visa fee is US$ 30 (if your trip is not more than 15 days so get 15 days visa and pay less). If you are in transit a single day visa will cost USD $5. (You can also use Euros or Australian dollars cash.)
Your hand baggage will be checked through an x-ray machine upon arrival into the baggage claim area. Sometimes your hold baggage will also be put through an x-ray machine, as you leave the baggage claim area, but normally not. Do not line up to do this unless you are instructed to do so.
Outside the arrivals hall, there will be a large group of taxi drivers and agents from many hotels and travel companies. Do not be hassled by these people. Stop and look carefully for a sign “Dream Himalaya Adventures” with your name. This will be either your Trek Guide or one from our Office and driver too who will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. You do not need to pay this driver, as the transfer is included in your trek/expedition price. You will likely be mobbed by people wanting to carry your bag to the taxi or bus. They will usually not run away with your bag but will expect a small tip for their assistance (e.g. $1). Otherwise, simply say them, no need for their help means no need to pay them.
